It seems that there is poker fever, and so popular has the game become, that it seems that there is no end to it. Poker has been rivaling the older and more established games in the past, and today it is the single most played game in the United States. However, the question must be asked, why is it that poker is so popular? There are several answers to this, and it may be that there are as many answers as poker player.

One reason that people like to play poker is that it is mainly a game of skill. While there is the element of chance, in poker, contrary to other casino games, you are playing against a player just like yourself, who does not have a house edge, but stands as much of a chance of winning, or losing, like you. In addition, skill makes a a real change in your chances of winning. While in other casino games you have no control over the game, in poker, skill is almost everything. Bearing a similarity to blackjack in this respect, poker is a game in which you can improve and be a better player.
