Celtic Sets Up First Scottish Football Club Poker Site

Celtic has set up their own poker site, making them the first Scottish football club to do so, amid warnings from the Catholic Church.

The online poker room will enable fans to form their own teams and play against other Celtic players. Eventually, fans of other SPL football clubs may also join in for inter-club poker tournaments.

Part of the proceeds from the online poker site will go to the club, to help fund a new training facility and youth development.

Although there are other sites such as Hibernian and Kilmarnock who are affiliated with online poker sites, Celtic is the first club to have a site to itself.

"We are delighted to agree this new partnership with fcpokerroom.com. We're sure this new association will provide our fans with a fun, exciting, next generation entertainment facility which will also allow fans to play their part in the development of Celtic Football Club," a spokesman for Celtic Football Club said.

The new Celtic online poker site offers a variety of prizes, including a spot in the Poker Tournament of Champions in Las Vegas.

"Our aim is to develop an online poker community, both within Celtic and through inter-club tournaments... not only will Celtic fans be able to form their own poker teams to play against each other, and Celtic players, they will soon be able to play against teams from other SPL football clubs in a new online poker tournament which could culminate in a Scotland poker team playing against an England poker team," Andy MacDonald, director of Fcpokerroom.com said.

Meanwhile, the Catholic Church of Scotland was quick to advise fans to practice responsible gambling. A spokesman said: "Gambling is not intrinsically wrong. We are all entitled to indulge a little... but only providing the gambling is kept under control and does not damage you personally or your family."
